SF 2009/01/19



On Jan 19, 2009 at 06:20am, Westmoreland was alerted to a reported structure fire with multiple reports, WFD car 440 arriving on the scene reported a house to be fully involved and assuming command for fire operations. soon after it was learned that the house was abandon for some time leaving firefighters with an exterior "surround and drown" Fire attack using a master stream mounted on engine one and several hand lines bringing the fire under control in just over an hour. It was also learned during fire suppression operations that the cause of the fire was suspicious in nature crews remain on the scene for several more hours preserving evidence for law enforcement and overhauling the fire scene. WFD was assisted by Stanwix Heights, Clark Mills, Lowell, Clinton Fire Depts, County Car 272 and Oneida County Air Van 278 were called to the scene.

SF 2009/01/02


On Jan 2, 2009 Westmoreland was alerted to a possible structure fire with smoke comming from the walls. Upon Engine 1's arrival a chimney fire with extension to the 1st, 2nd floor walls and attic was reported. Westmoreland Car 3 assumed command for the fire operations. The stubburn fire was brought under controle in just under an hour, crediting the crews from Westmoreland and Clark Mills with a nice stop of the fire. Westmoreland was assisted at the scene by Clark Mills with manpower and a tanker as well as tankers from Stanwix and Clinton fire depts

MVA 2008/12/11
On Dec 11, 2008, Westmoreland Firefighters responded to back to back MVAs on the NYS Thruway. The MVA had no personal injuries and limited property damage including mile marker 246.4 in the east bound lane. Two female patients were extricated using the jaws of life. Both patients were transported to a Utica hospital by COCVAC. In the time frame of 18:30-21:15 hrs Westmoreland Fire Dept was called to eight MVAs on and off of the NYS Thruway. Verona Fire Dept was called to assist Westmoreland Firefighters on the Thruway but were later canceled en route.

MVA 2008/12/09

On Dec 9, 2008, Westmoreland Fire was alerted to a one car MVA with unknown injuries on State Rote 5. First arriving units reported a car tree MVA with serious personal injuries. Westmoreland firefighters extricated one male patient with serious injuries using the jaws of life. The patient was then transported by COCVAC to a local hospital where shortly after arriving the male patient had succumb to fatal injuries. Westmoreland was assisted at the scene by fire police from Clinton Fire to assist with traffic during law enforcement investigation. Also while assisting law enforcement, Westmoreland responded an engine company to an investigation with Stanwix Heights FD on Pazdure Blvd. Westmoreland firefighters also handled an ems call on East Main St. before retuning in service from the original call.

MVA 2008/12/31


On Dec 31, 2008, Westmoreland Fire was alerted to an suv & tractor trailer MVA with unknown injuries. Upon the arrival of WFD Car 2 it was reported that the tractor trailer was on its side in the ditch with an suv rollover an two possible patient signoffs. Westmoreland Firefighters evaluated drivers of both vehicles and both declined treatment. WFD called in service a short time later.
